La Piastra was born in 2004 as a part-time catering service when the owner, Lauren Siegel, realized that she could turn her passion for cooking into a career. For two years, she learned the ropes through an apprenticeship with a master chef and numerous hobby courses offered at local culinary schools and restaurants.

Seeing a need to provide fresh, quality meals to go, in 2006 she created and distributed a line of products under the La Piastra brand through a supermarket. The retail location in Cromwell opened its doors in 2008 to showcase the hundreds of different entrees and sides, soups, sauces and salads created by Lauren and her team of chefs.
